Here at Dollar, we know that a good education is about more than academic results, but we are nevertheless very proud of the achievements of our pupils. According to the most recent Sunday Times league tables, Dollar Academy has the third best SQA examination results in Scotland. Dollar pupils thrive on challenge and sit more Advanced Highers per pupil than at any other school. We are also unusual in encouraging pupils to take the Scottish Baccalaureate qualification as we believe that additional pathways add value not only to university applications, but also to preparation for life.
Like most schools in Scotland, Dollar Academy follows the Scottish Curriculum, administered by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). These qualifications are highly valued by universities across the UK and Europe. The system is similar, in many respects, to the English A-level system with a broad range of subjects being studied up until age 16, followed by Higher examinations in five subjects in the penultimate year and, typically, Advanced Higher examinations in three subjects in the final year.

In 2019, pupils in Form V attained a remarkable pass rate of 95.7%, with 67.8% of these at A grade. This is the highest figure on record, and no less than 60 pupils achieved ‘clean sweeps’ of A grades in either five or six subjects.
Form VI also produced a strong performance in Advanced Higher, achieving a 91.9% pass rate, with 42 pupils achieving straight A grades. The SQA Advanced Higher qualification is highly regarded internationally, with an A-grade equivalent to an A* grade at A-level.
Our Form IV pupils kept pace with 2018’s record-breaking results equalling the National 5 pass rate of 97%, with an impressive 72.8% resulting in A grade.
