After Dollar

As well as the unique experience that pupils gain during their time here at Dollar, we like to think our influence travels with them…whichever route they choose to travel. Dollar prepares children for leadership, for teamwork and for life.

Advice and Work Experience

Dollar pupils apply for courses all over the world. If applying to a British university, pupils will soon become familiar with the UCAS process and our UCAS Advisors are here to help navigate this process. From first discussions to submitting that crafted application, we have plenty of experience in this area. Pupils who want to go on to study subjects such as medicine, law, art, dentistry, veterinary science and those who are applying to Oxford or Cambridge will be assigned to specialist advisors.

The classroom and the world of work are two very different environments, although focusing our teaching on relevant skills helps close this gap. We assist pupils in finding work placements covering a broad range of disciplines and are always very appreciative of the support offered by an extensive network of Former Pupils and parents.

Work Hard

Hard work is the basis of all success and a strong work ethic is displayed by pupils and teachers at Dollar. Ambition and excellence are encouraged and are entirely compatible with helping others. We want everyone to be as good as they can be.

Events

March/April:  Pupils interested in applying to Oxford or Cambridge are invited to attend a conference with university liaison staff and current students for information about specific institutions and the application process
June:  Our first UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service) evening takes place in June for Form V pupils and their parents to meet representatives from a range of universities and gather material and advice on their application process.
Early August:  In the days following the release of the examination results, UCAS staff are in school to help pupils and parents with enquiries relating to university applications.  Those whose results have failed to meet entrance requirements, for example, or those who have had a change of heart on receipt of unexpected exam results, will receive guidance as to their options.
September:  We run a second UCAS evening for Form VI which focuses on the application process with guests from major Scottish universities giving insights into their student admissions and recruitment process.  September is the time that our Form VI pupils are launched into the process of application and that Former Pupils, already at university requiring course or institution changes, or those who have been on a gap year, are supported in making new applications.

Career Resources

Our pupils are encouraged to make the most of our extensive resources which are expertly designed to get them prepared for the industry of their choice. Our pupils benefit greatly from the expertise of our Careers Adviser who provides a comprehensive careers guidance, information and advice service.  This service is impartial, confidential and free to all pupils attending the school.
