During the past few months, pupils from the Senior School have been taking part in our Young Musician of the Year competition. This competition is open to any pupil in the Senior School and this year the competition was for singers only. A number of pupils auditioned for the competition, which has three separate categories: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
The final showcased a range of vocal talent from across the Senior School, and pupils performed to adjudicator Ms Nia Coleman. Ms Coleman, a graduate from the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, The Royal Academy of Music and The University of Manchester, holds qualifications in both Music and Drama. She treated the audience to a performance of ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’ from the musical My Fair Lady before handing out the awards to our successful finalists.
Annika and Freya (both Form I) were runners-up in the Beginner class with Rosie (also Form I) taking the trophy for her rendition of ‘Where is Love?’ from the musical Oliver. Eve and Laura (both Form III) competed in the Intermediate class, with Laura taking the trophy for her performance of ‘With You’ from the musical Ghost. The Advanced class saw Tom (Form VI), Rachel (Form IV) and Lily (Form V) compete, with Lily placing first. Lily sang ‘Le Secret’ by Gabriel Fauré and ‘Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again’ by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Congratulations to all our pupils who participated in this competition. Dollar’s Music Department is already looking forward to the Young Musician of the Year 2021!
