Ian, in fact, was given his first set of skis just before his second birthday. He started race training at Firpark dry ski slope in Tillicoultry at the age of just six, and has been competing since he was seven on dry slope. He began competing on snow in 2016 in the Scottish Alpine series and won the U10 Boys Scottish Children’s Championship at Nevis. That year he also came 2nd in the British Indoor Championships in Manchester.
In 2017, Ian ventured further afield to Bormio in Italy for the English Alpine Championships where he came 5th. In Tignes, France, he came 4th the British Alpine Championships. He also won numerous races last year both on dry mat and indoor artificial snow.
This year so far, Ian has won the U12 boys snow races at the Lecht Open, Cairgorm Ski Club Open, Scottish Children’s Championship and, most recently, on Sunday 17 March at the Glencoe Open. All of these races are part of The Scottish Alpine Series. Ian travelled with his family to Bormio again in February, where he came 8th out of 51 racers in the U12 Boys. At Easter, he travels back to Tignes at Easter for the British Championships. Best of luck to Ian as the 2018 ski racing season continues.
