Success at the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships 2018

Dollar Academy’s Pipe Bands achieved great success at the 2018 Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships held on Sunday 11 March in Livingston.

 

The Dollar Academy ‘A’ Band won 1st place in the Juvenile category becoming the overall Scottish Schools Champions; the ‘B’ band took 2nd place in the Novice Juvenile A category; and the ‘C’ Band were awarded 3rd place in the Novice Juvenile B category. The Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships showcases the talent of Scotland’s young pipers and drummers. Every year, the second Sunday in March sees hundreds of young people from across Scotland and England come together for a day of music, friendship and fun.

At the competition on Sunday, Archie MacKechnie (Form III) was also announced as the winner of the Piping Hit 2018 competition. ‘Archie played his composition (‘The 7:53 to Glasgow’) with Ruairidh Brown (Form III) in front of a packed audience,’ said Mr Craig Stewart (piping tutor), ‘And it was something quite special!’ Congratulations to all of Dollar’s Pipe Band members and to Archie on his win.
