Sports Weekend 2019 officially brings our Bicentenary Year to a close

Following two weeks of torrential rain and hail, the sun appeared in Dollar just in time for our annual Sports Weekend.

Events kicked off on Thursday 20 June with the Prep School Sports. The children took part in a variety of races, from competitive sprints to egg and spoon, dressing-up, sack, relay and the ever-popular ‘Trolley’ race! Great fun was had by all, with excellent support from a large crowd of family and friends.

Next up was the Junior School Sports on Friday. The boys and girls took part in a number of track and field events, showing great skill and determination. The class relays were particularly noisy and competitive! The Pipe Band performed on each of the days, entertaining the crowds with first class piping and drumming, and wonderful displays. It was lovely to see so many Prep and Junior pupils take part in these performances.

The Athletics Championships on  Saturday afternoon once again included  Prep and Junior pupils in the sprint finals, House relays, fun races with seniors and team races. Athletes from all age groups performed at a high level across a wide range of track and field events. Huge congratulations to the 2019 champions:

Following the presentations of cups and medals, our Pipe Band and musicians treated the crowds to a moving performance of “Dollar Sunrise”. A helicopter then landed on the Sports Field to collect the Bicentenary Flag, officially marking  the end of our Bicentenary Year. In-keeping with tradition, the day ended with the Boarders vs Day Pupils Tug O’War; after a very passionate and physical performance, the Boarders were victorious.

Well done to all of children who took part over the three days and demonstrated our values of “Work Hard, Be Kind and Get Involved” so well. Thanks to all of the staff who helped and to the great number of spectators who came along to support.
