On Friday 30 November, 43 pupils from Form IV, V and VI, who are taking French, viewed a private screening of De toutes nos forces at the Macrobert Arts Centre.

The screening was organised with the help of Film Programmer Grahame Reid and the Dollar Academy Modern Languages department.

The film, directed by Nils Tavernier, is from the programme of this year’s French Film Festival UK. The plot follows the true story of Team Hoyt and his disabled son, who join forces to participate in the gruelling Ironman triathlon.

The themes include changing family dynamics and relationships, which is a key component of the Higher French course.

As the glorious settings in the Alps and Nice transported everyone to la belle France, both pupils and staff enjoyed the film immensely, and the trip was a great success. Several pupils commented that the film was ‘inspirational’, ‘very moving’ and ‘it made me cry’.

Many thanks to Grahame for his input in organising the event for the school.
