Senior Cross Country Championships 2018

The Senior Cross Country Championships took place yesterday, 20 March, in perfect conditions. This event is always, of course, a hugely popular event at Dollar Academy. A vast number of pupils participate—some vying hard for those coveted top spots, others just happy to be out amidst the hills and woods of Dollar, clambering over ditches and roots rather than sitting in the classrooms.

Senior Cross Country 2018

The ‘Beast from the East’ extended our winter into what is normally an early spring cross-country event, and the course was simply un-runnable on the originally scheduled day. The event, usually fraught more by mud than by snow, had to be postponed.

Fortunately, the new date for the Championships proved to be perhaps the most beautiful day of 2018 so far: a cold, crisp breeze swept the sky free of clouds and the huge field of 400 runners enjoyed perfect cross-country weather and fine conditions.

‘It was an amazing effort from everyone involved,’ said Mr Newton, ‘Including the top runners, who have trained hard for this event, and those who pushed themselves to the utmost and enjoyed a superb day out. This really is a run for everyone. A huge thanks, too, to all staff who helped, out on the course, in the Boys’ Pavilion, and those who stayed indoors to supervise the non-runners.’
