Mr Doug Allan visited the Academy on 30 January.
Allan spoke to Geography and Biology students in Form III, as well as pupils from Lornshill Academy and Alloa Academy. He then gave a smaller talk to Dollar’s Higher Environmental Science pupils. The presentations were organised by the Scottish Association of Geography Teachers (SAGT).
Allan discussed his fascinating career in photography, particularly his experiences of working in the Arctic and Antarctica. He also shared some of his favourite video clips, including plenty of his favourite mammal, the killer whale.
Throughout his presentations he touched on how damage to the environment is having an increasingly detrimental impact on wildlife. He discussed the importance of being aware of our own consumption of fuel and other natural resources.
Reflecting on his own successes, Allan advised pupils to consider a career linked to their own personal interests. He also stressed the importance of remaining self-disciplined.
Dollar Academy Head of Geography, Mr McConnell said: “We were delighted to welcome Doug Allan – the cameraman behind so many of the video clips we have used in the Geography classroom. I was really pleased to be able to involve Lornshill and Alloa Academy pupils, as well as a number of very enthusiastic Dollar parents.”
