Scottish Schools Athletics Association Indoor Championships

On Wednesday 7 February, the Scottish Schools Athletics Association Indoor Championships took place at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

Dollar pupil Sarah Coutts (Form III) competed in the U16 800m, and put in such a strong qualifying run that she easily reached the final. In that race, she came fifth but ran so quickly that she broke the previous school record.

Then, in the U16 1500m, she also ran yet another comfortable qualifying race; her finish there ensured her progress to that final, too. And in the final of the 1500m, Sarah ran what her coaches admiringly called ‘a mature, fast-paced race’. ‘Drawing upon her experience, she secured an excellent 2nd place finish in a time of 4 mins, 38.23secs, thereby setting yet another new school record for U16 in the 1500m. This impressive time earned her the silver medal at these important championships.

‘She ran some very fine races indeed. She has worked hard in the lead-up to the Championships and certainly deserves this success. Well done, Sarah!’ said Mr Hose and Mrs Galloway (PE teachers).
