The presentation was made by national hillwalking ambassador Chris Townsend, with HRH The Earl of Forfar also in attendance.
During the Gold Award Presentation, HRH congratulated the group from Dollar on their successes and heard about their DofE journeys, which took each pupil 12-18 months of hard work and dedication.
Those who achieve a Gold DofE Award will volunteer, learn a skill, get fit, take part in a week long residential as well as plan and undertake an expedition in wild country. Widely acknowledged as the world’s leading achievement award for young people, DofE programmes enable any young person, aged 14-24, to develop key skills for life and work, such as confidence, commitment and team working.
Mr Andy Johns, DofE Manager at Dollar Academy, attended the presentation to see the group receive their Gold Awards. Mr Johns said: “These young people have gained so much over the many years of following their Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE Awards, from overcoming challenges, working as part of a team, and giving something back to their local communities. It has been a pleasure to see them develop over the years and gain skills such as resilience, self-motivation and team working that will benefit them in the future; the presentation at Holyrood Palace is all about recognising their achievements.”
