Twelve medical professionals successfully completed the course, which develops the specific skills required to deal with injuries sustained on a school rugby pitch. The course had a rigorous theory section and also a practical element.
This course is relatively new to Scotland and Dollar Academy is paving the way in pursuing a greater awareness of the importance of pitch-side care in school-age rugby. All rugby coaches at Dollar work hard with young athletes to ensure that they have the strength, stability and posture for tackling and scrummage. Having highly trained medical staff at the pitch-side wherever possible allows Dollar Academy to be equipped to give immediate care to any injured player during every home game.
Don Caskie, Director of Rugby said: ‘Rugby is a high impact collision/contact sport and player welfare must be our top priority. We have a responsibility to create the safest player environment, from player technique to pitch-side care and rehabilitation following injury.’
