Over 120 athletes took to the track this season
A number of individual successes were achieved at the National Championships. Sarah Coutts (Form III) added to her Indoor 1500m silver medal with another silver in the 800m outdoor Track and Field Championships. Emma Mailer also won silver in the 300m hurdles. Both girls also achieved ‘Badge Standards’ in their events and have recently been selected to represent Scotland in an international match against the home nations which will be held at Grangemouth on Saturday 21st July. Emma competed in this competition last year when it was held in Dublin. Sarah has also set two new school records in the 800m and 1500m. Many congratulations to the girls who thoroughly deserve recognition in their events.
A season with individual and team successes
Other notable performances were made by Nana Akuoko (Form IV) and Paige Stevens (Form I) who both secured places in their respective Long Jump finals; Nana finished 6th and Paige 5th. Paige also set a new Long Jump record when she competed at the Emirates Arena earlier in the year. Maya Miller (Form I) competed in the U/14 1500m, missing a place in the final by the narrowest of margins but, to her credit, set a new school record in an earlier event.
Scott Huntly (Form I) competed in the U/14 Pentathlon Championships for the first time and achieved a bronze medal. Paige Stevens (Form I) finished 6th in the same age group and Euan Smith (Form IV) finished 7th in the U/17 age group.
Three teams were entered into the 4 x 100m Relay Championships and although no medals were won they thoroughly enjoyed the experience of running on a tartan track. The boys U/14 team finished 4th in the final, narrowly missing the bronze position and the U/17 girls team finished 5th in their final.
None of this would have been possible without the people behind the scenes. On behalf of the athletes we would like to thank all the staff who assisted with matches, the ground staff for setting the field and the coaches who made it possible for our athletes to train and experience events at club sessions.
Athletics is alive and well at Dollar and we look forward to another successful season next year.
