This year, the fair took place on Wednesday 19 February, with the results announced and awarded the following day. It was very clear how hard the young scientists had worked from the array of different projects, ranging from Do Your Eyes Affect Your Mouth? to Are Dogs Left or Right Pawed?. As with previous years, the fair was a bright and buzzing event.
Each year, Junior 2 pupils come up with, and then investigate, a science project as a part of their homework. They then design and build a presentation which explains their project and its findings. Pupils then set up their presentations in the Assembly Hall and explain their research to both the younger pupils and the judges. This year’s accomplished judges came from a variety of science-based backgrounds, including teaching, medicine and academia, as well as some of our own Senior School pupils who have an interest in science.
After speaking to all of the pupils, the judges had the difficult task of selecting the winners. On Thursday morning, class teachers led pupils to the Assembly Hall for the results. Head of the Junior School, Mrs Neil, commented on how amazed she was at the variety of projects on display, and how pupils had explored such a wide range of questions and issues in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Psychology. Our Rector, Mr Munro, a former Biology teacher, also commented on how much he had enjoyed seeing the projects, before awarding the winners with their certificates.
