The team faced The Mary Erskine School in the semi-final
A combination of adrenaline and determination must have helped keep the Dollar players warm, because they appeared completely unaffected by weather or the significance of the occasion, and they dominated the game from start from finish, ultimately winning the game 4-0 with goals by Ellie Towers, Erin Stevens, and two by Olivia Mears. The Mary Erskine team worked hard, and created one or two chances, but their defence was under continuous pressure throughout the game with Dollar dominating all aspects of the play. Despite being two goals up at half time, the Dollar midfield were taking no chances and worked relentlessly to impose themselves. When the decisive third goal went in, the large group of Dollar supporters attending celebrated with great excitement and even the Rector was seen to jump in their air!
Dollar have won the National U15 title for the last three years, so this success can be said to have been slowly building, but this is the first time the school has reached the U18 final. The final will be played against Craigholme at the Scottish National Hockey Centre in Glasgow on Friday 16 March, starting at 6pm.
‘This was simply the best performance I have seen from the squad this year,’ said Miss Allan, Director of Hockey. ‘I am delighted that the squad are progressing to the final. It will be a fantastic evening and an experience they will remember for years to come.’
Miss Allan and the team would like to thank everyone who turned out to watch the semi-final; the support was brilliant. ‘The hard work is done,’ said Miss Allan, ‘and I have absolutely no doubt the girls will give everything in the final against Craigholme.’
