The Secondary Level 1 team of Anna Milling Smith, Rebecca Watson and Amelie Fyfe (all FI) performed with real confidence and gained silver medals, only narrowly losing out on a gold medal by 0.1 of a point. This was plenty to qualify them for the national finals, however, and they look forward to this next stage of the competition.
Dollar entered two Secondary Level 2 teams who also performed very well. The first team— comprising Symantha Scott (FII), Hayley Smith and Paige Stevens (both FI)—took home silver medals after their second-place finish; they also qualified for the national finals. Emily Newton, Elli Johnston and Catrin Maclean (all FII) finished in a very satisfactory 4th position.
The Secondary Level 3 team—comprising Sarah Nicol, Katy Hynd (both FI), Sophie Wilson (FII) and Nadia Smith (FIV) were delighted to come in first, winning gold medals as well as the opportunity to represent Clackmannanshire in the national finals.
Dollar gymnasts gained gold, silver and bronze
In primary-level gymnastics news, Dollar Academy’s Primary Level 3 competition also took place on Thursday 1 February; the team of Riley Thomson, Molly Kershaw, Rachel Warden (all J2) and Lilia Warden (P4) performed with style in a very close competition; after their superb performance, they came away with bronze medals. Tremendous congratulations to this young and talented team.
On Sunday 28 January, Dollar also sent 20 gymnasts to take part in the Primary Level 1 and 2 Floor and Vault Competition. With 46 teams taking part in the Primary Level 1 Competition, the Primary Level 1 team of Michael Jack, Jamie King, Emma Manson (all J2) and Esther Lang (J1) did fantastically well to gain bronze medals. The Primary Level 2 team of Laura Nicol (P5), Emily Norval, Mia Foster (all J2) and Victoria Murphy (J1) also performed extremely well against 16 other teams. They only narrowly missed out on a podium position, coming 4th. Many congratulations to all of these fine, young gymnasts who have worked hard in training, preparing their routines, and gave their all on the day. The school looks forward to hearing news of the upcoming national finals.
