Dollar Drumming Success!

On Saturday 19 October, several Dollar pupils performed at the World Solo Drumming Championships in Glasgow.

Competing against drummers who had travelled to Glasgow from across the globe, Dollar pupil Oliver (J2) was the overall winner, and crowned World Champion in the Juvenile Section 1 March category.

Other pupils also picked up medals, with Zac (FI) and Anna (J1) placing 3rd in the Juvenile Section 1  and Juvenile Tenor Section 1 respectively.

George (FI) competed in the Juvenile Section 3, and gained a 1st place from one adjudicator, narrowly missing out on the top title.

Fiona (FV) also competed in the International Tenor Drumming Section 4 and performed really well.

Not to be outdone by his pupils, Mr Steven McWhirter, Drumming Teacher at Dollar Academy won the main event, the adult section of the competition, making this his 9th successive World Championship title!

Congratulations to all the drummers who took part and thank you to staff members, Mr Innes, Ms Augaitis and Mr McWhirter for all the hard work and support.
Mr Innes said: “I was extremely proud of the performances from all of the Dollar drummers, and over the moon for Oliver’s win – we now have our first ever World Solo Drumming Champion!”

A huge and final thank you must go to the pipers that accompanied the drummers in the competition, Callum (FII) and Alistair (FIV), as without their support the drummers could not have had their successes.
