20 players from Forms II-VI ventured to Desert Springs Resort on the South Eastern coast of Spain during the half term break for the inaugural Winter Cricket Trip. Players were coached under the expert tuition of Ian Shaw, a Level III coach with Cricket Scotland.
All of the boys enjoyed excellent nets with the use of a bowling machine and a full-size pitch. There was also a strong selection of evening activities, including a number of films, six-a-side football and also a general knowledge quiz expertly written by Form IV pupils Oliver Brown and Jamie Cairns.
The weather was fantastic – reaching a high of 22 degrees during the day with cooler evenings. All of the boys tried the rather chilly swimming pool during siesta time.
The food was more than plentiful and the boys thoroughly enjoyed the all-you-can-eat buffet for breakfast and their evening meal, as well as plenty of visits to the snack bar!
The tour player awards were made on the coach on the return journey to the new Alicante airport. A special thanks goes to both Mr Shaw for his coaching and sense of humour as well as Mrs MacBean who drove a minibus from Dollar in the very early morning to Glasgow Airport to help a number of boys catch their flight.
The tour was voted a great success by the players and staff and the planning for the next winter cricket tour has already started.
