On 24 June, after an excellent season, the 1st XI shared the cup with Fettes College after the final was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. In addition to this, the team have recently been voted Scottish Schools Cricket Team of the Year by the Scottish Forty Club. The Forty Club considered Dollar’s 1st XI to be the strongest school team in Scotland in batting, bowling and fielding, whilst maintaining a consistent turn out and demonstrating positive behaviour. The 1st XI are now in the running for the UK Team of the Year, which will be announced in November.
There were a number of fantastic individual performances from 1st XI players last season – Toby and Jonlhi (both FPs 2019), were the leading batsmen in the team, with Toby also named as the best bowler, along with current pupil, Jamie (FV). Robbie (FV) achieved a five-wicket haul in a match against Merchiston Castle School, and Euan (FVI) scored seventy-one not out during a game against George Heriot’s.
At an individual level, Jamie (FV) travelled to the Netherlands for two weeks over the summer break to play for the Scotland U19s. The team were incredibly successful, and have qualified for the cricket U19 World Cup in South Africa, which takes place in January next year. This is a fantastic achievement.
Away from the 1st XI, Daniel (FIV) had an exceptional summer playing for the Form III team as well as the Scotland U15 team.
Eddie Pollock, PE Teacher at Dollar Academy said: “It was a pleasure to coach such a talented and enthusiastic group of players. Their success is great testament to the hard work and dedication Jamie Frost has put in as Head of Cricket. The teams played some excellent cricket and were a credit to the school at all times.”
Dollar Academy wishes the 1st XI and Jamie further successes in this academic year.
