Dollar Academy wins in University Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

On 28-29 September, our Ultimate Frisbee team had a very successful weekend at the annual Edinburgh University Beginners Ultimate Frisbee Championships.

The tournament was held at the Oriam Sports Facility at Heriot-Watt University, where all students in Scotland with up to one-year experience in Ultimate Frisbee were invited to attend.

Dollar was the only school competing against seventeen university teams from across Scotland.

Our pupils competed against students from Aberdeen University, Edinburgh University, Heriot-Watt University and Strathclyde University. Amazingly, our pupils managed to win all of these matches.

Dollar then beat Heriot-Watt in the quarter-finals, Strathclyde in the semi-finals and finally competed against University of Glasgow in the final. Dollar played a really strong match and were able to prevail a score of 9-3 – winning the Scottish University Beginner title – not a bad achievement for a school team!

Mr Neil McEwan, History Teacher and Ultimate Frisbee coach at Dollar said: “Every single member of the team was absolutely fantastic and made a crucial contribution over the two days.”

Well done to all the pupils involved in the tournament.
