All the ceramic poppies were created over the last six months, by pupils at the school.
Huge praise to Mr Gavin Burnett in the Art department who came up with this idea, and with Mr Peter Nelson worked tirelessly to create this stunning installation.
Later at 7.30pm, there was a community evening of commemoration at the Gibson Auditorium.
Dollar Academy pupils performed songs from the First World War, including ‘Roses of Picardy’ and ‘Keep the Home Fires Burning.’ Pupils also recited poems, letters and articles from the Dollar Community about the impact of the war.
This was followed by Professor Ewan Cameron, Head of History, Classics and Archaeology and Sir William Fraser, Chair of Scottish History. Professor Cameron spoke about the impact of the Great War on Scotland and also challenged some of the prevailing myths about the period.
This was a poignant evening and was very well attended by a range of people from the local community, who stayed for refreshments and discussion after the lecture.
