On 14 November, Form VI pupil Magdalena (Maya) Smolkova won a £150 prize from the Institute of Physics for receiving the top mark in the Higher Physics exam earlier this year. FP Angus McLeod (2012-2018) also accepted an award for achieving the highest score in Advanced Higher Chemistry in Scotland.
Angus received a certificate and a generous amount of book tokens – which will come in useful as he is currently in his first year of studying Medicine at University of Edinburgh.
Maya’s prize was presented by Richard Lochhead MSP (Minister for Further Education) and Alison McLure, National Manager (Scotland) of the Institute of Physics.
Science and the Parliament 2018 event took place at Dynamic Earth, which included keynotes speeches from Professor Sheila Rowan MBE, Professor Lesley Yellowlees CBE and Professor Dame Anne Glover DBE.
The theme of this year’s event was ‘Education and Skills’.
Maya is very pleased with her prize.
