Scottish Schools Cup Champions
After a tense and nervous start, the girls took control of the match. Rhiannon Carr (FIV) converted a corner to make it 1-0 after 15 minutes; ‘this allowed the girls to relax into the game and play the hockey they are capable of,’ commented Miss Allan (Director of Hockey).
Georgia Smith (FVI) then scored, giving them a comfortable lead heading into half-time.
A valiant Craigholme side never gave up, and created a few chances, but Dollar remained comfortable in both defence and attack with every player making a valuable contribution to the performance.
With just 10 seconds to go, Erin Stevens (FVI) executed a drag-flick at the corner. ‘It was a superb goal into the roof of the net. This sealed the victory and the celebrations were underway,’ said Miss Allan.
Captain Jenny Walls (FVI) was presented the cup in front of the assembled crowd in Glasgow.
Miss Allan would like to extend a huge thank you to all the supporters who travelled through to the game; ‘there was an amazing atmosphere,’ she said.
‘I don’t think it has quite sunk in yet that we are the Scottish Champions,’ said Miss Allan, ‘This is something I have dreamt about since being appointed Director of Hockey and have worked towards by ensuring we have the best environment possible for all the players in the school. I could not ask for a better squad. They have worked so, so hard over the years and in particular the last seven months. I am extremely proud of everything they have achieved. Winning the cup on Friday evening is perhaps the best moment in my playing and coaching career. I would like to thank all the coaches who have worked with the girls throughout their hockey at Dollar and all the parents for their support.’
