Dollar is delighted to be working with Tennis Scotland and the LTA on their new National Tennis Academy programme. Eight of Britain’s top young tennis players will board and study at Dollar whilst training each day at the new GB National Tennis Academy at the University of Stirling. As part of the national programme, a further eight players will be based at Loughborough University.
The National Tennis Academy aims to position Britain as one of the most respected nations in the world for player development by providing an outstanding tennis development programme alongside a high-quality education. Leonardo Azevendo has been appointed as Head Coach by Tennis Scotland and the LTA. Mr Azevedo is renowned as a world-class coach and brings vast experience at the highest level of both male and female professional tennis – with a particularly strong record in developing junior talent, including work with former world number one Juan Ferrero. He will be supported by experienced tour player Colin Fleming and the pair will be joined by the LTA’s Performance Advisor to the GB National Tennis Academy, Esteban Carril. The coaches will also be assisted by Davis Cup captain, Leon Smith.
Dollar has a proud history of supporting and nurturing young athletes across various sporting activities, with many of our pupils going on to compete competitively at both regional and national levels. We look forward to welcoming the National Tennis Academy pupils in August 2019.
David Knapman, Rector at Dollar Academy, said: “The school has an impressive history of supporting and nurturing young athletes across various sporting activities, with many of our pupils going on to compete successfully at both regional and national levels. We are delighted to be working closely with Tennis Scotland, the University of Stirling and the LTA on this joint initiative. I hope the youngsters will be very happy at Dollar when they join the school later this year.”
