It was another very busy year, topped for a busy and successful summer, for the Dollar Shooting team.
This summer, a team of 18 top shots travelled to Bisley NRA to compete in the main shooting event in the cadet target shooting calendar. 2018 saw them return victorious with the London Scottish Trophy for the 21st year in a row—an unbelievable achievement.
The team performed very well throughout the Schools Week and secured 4th place in the Ashburton, with a score of 753 and 33 V-Bulls. Representing Scotland in the Cadet International, our shooters came in 3rd place.
Individual success was achieved in The Wellington, The Iveagh and The Cadet Target Aggregate, each of which was won by Sgt Jamie Gibson (Form VI), who also was placed 3rd in the Victoria Tankard in a tremendous performance of shooting prowess. Special congratulations to Jamie.
Our Dollar team, Sgt Ethan Parkins (Form IV) and Cpl Callum Chen (V), placed a close 2nd in the cadet Pairs and our Cadet Fours team came 4th in their competition.
‘The extreme temperatures, which reached 33 degrees on a number of days, did not stop our shooters from performing exceptionally well against top class opposition,’ commented Lt Barlow (i/c Recruits and DA shooting coach) ‘Six of our shooters were placed well up in the Schools Hundred competition where their scores from the Tuesday and Wednesday aggregates are combined in a highly competitive field of over 500 cadets.’
Imperial Week
Seven Dollar pupils then stayed on to compete in the Imperial Competition the week following Schools Week. Here they competed against over 1000 world-class individual shooters, many of whom have represented their countries at Commonwealth Games level.
‘During these competitions Dollar pupils had the fantastic opportunity to shoot alongside top shooters such as Luckman, Patel, Corbett, McLeod, Shaw, Button and Calvert. Based on their scores and performances during the week they were invited to compete in Scottish team events where they did Dollar proud,’ said Mrs Barlow.
